Frugal Tips for the Holidays...

For the past couple of years I have been using Pinching Your Pennies' online forum to help me with my Christmas shopping. It really is Better Than Black Friday Without The Lines!!!

The Fireman and I never seem to have enough money during the holiday season. It seems there is always a car repair, medical bill, or some other annoying thing there to eat away at the budget.

I am always on the look out for great gifts and I do try to put a lot of thought into what I am getting. I love to give gifts and I wish I could do more, but if wishes were raindrops we would be fish.... (hehehe)

Anyway, what are some of your budget savvy Christmas ideas?

I found a great blog post to share...... But please give me more ideas!!!

This past year we gave our friend coupons labeled "Butt of the month club." He LOVES my homemade bread, and always eats both ends first (the "butts"). The coupons allowed him to choose the kind of bread he wanted, when he wanted it. The only stipulation was that I had 5 days to fulfill the request. It was seriously a best loved gift! And since I make bread weekly, not an extra thing for me.

Another one we did was to buy a big glass jar at the DI, dress it up a bit with ribbons, and give it to some family friends. Same idea - the jar was full of coupons for various handmade treats. The mom isn't a baker, so for them, this was heaven.

This year is all about homemade, but purchasing the stuff to make the stuff is pretty spendy. I've been shopping all fall for that.

I like getting things throughout the year so that it isn't a huge slam on the budget come November and December.
